Introductions

This is a website dedicated to the musings of Hardy Ward, a friend, confidant, an elite archer and coach. His style lives on in most of the Asian countries as he taught the best to be the best. Hopefully, I can honor his memory by posting his musings from my personal interaction with him.

Hardy had a unique form of writing, as his mind lived in the Eastern mindset, yet he still spoke very fluent English. The diction is sometimes hard to understand, but with reading a few times, the instruction becomes apparent.

The Golden Bow Arm

The influence of the bow hand to the bow arm, and shoulder, the supporting end that drives forward for executing the shot, but not without equal support (action) from the drawing region with a lifting response through the core or upper chest through the shoulder line.

During the initial draw, the bow hand’s pressure is distributed from its pivot point (web) through the thumb pad. As aiming begins a secondary draw becomes active as a continuous motion for executing the shot. Relaxation of the bow hand and arm allows its pressure to settle seating the thumb pad pressure firmer to a lower position. In doing so this draws or pulls the bow arm forward from the shoulder. Simultaneously this moment is balancing from the action of the drawing region’s relaxation for drawing to and against the supportive action of the bow hand. In between the upper chest cavity with the shoulder line are being lifted to a higher status.

Form’s triangulation spreads to open by elongating the front side of Form. Here distance and pressure increases on the front side of Form from the drawing region to the bow hand, the fulcrum point. On the backside of Form distance decreases from the drawing shoulder to the bow hand for enhancing skeletal alignment. In between the upper chest and shoulder line are lifted giving the response to shoot.

As Form spreads open there is an elongating slide. As the shot executes the bow hands shifts (pops) to the strong side of Form but is countered by a shifting torque within the core and an equal reaction from the drawing region. The draw hand slides alongside the neck traveling toward the drawing shoulder. Both hands have an equal follow-through response of a few inches. Why, because of training, conditioning, and discipline. The follow-through does not explode apart because the two supporting ends are pushed apart from a central region. The follow-through is self-sustaining from within its own composure.

Aiming is always the foremost priority while Form executes the shot. Through the archer's sense of self-awareness, archers realize internal motion will execute the shot from a conditioned response. No need to overthink.

Again, as the bow hand pressure relaxes to a lower position this pulls the bow arm forward from the shoulder.
